Communities In Schools of Peninsula: Programs

Mentoring Our Students to Reading Success

CISP partners with local elementary schools to provide this program. Adult mentors are recruited from our local community to read with at-risk readers. The role of the mentor in this one-on-one relationship based program is to be an encouraging partner in helping the child to see themselves as a "reader." Contact CISP: Click Here or telephone (253) 884-5733 for more information about being a reading mentor.

Math Mentoring

CISP partners with local middle schools and high schools to provide this after school program for middle and high school students struggling with math. CISP recruits volunteer mentors to help kids achieve math success with the guidance of a CISP math instructor. Contact CISP: Click Here or telephone (253) 884-5733 for more information about being a math mentor.

Family Strengthening

Programs consist of monthly and seasonal evening offerings for students and families in the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula areas. Held at local schools, offerings include parenting classes, literacy events, and family/student consultation and services brokering. Contact CISP: Click Here or telephone (253) 884-5733 for specific program information, dates, and locations of program offerings.

Student and Family Services

CISP provides supportive services to address issues of concern through a whole school approach. Examples include: helping students meet academic and behavioral goals through goal setting and recognition events, providing Master's level social work to facilitate group counseling for troubled middle school youth, supporting school strategies to reduce bullying and harrassment through theater, linking students to summer camp scholarships, and more.
